Should you do cardio to help you lose fat?

A misconception among many people who wish to lose fat is to focus on cardio exercises. Cardio exercises play an important role in weight loss, but it’s not the only way. Here are a few things to consider when deciding if you should do cardio or not when trying to lose fat.

1. You have to keep in mind that what goes into your body will play a key role in your fat loss. And it’s true when they say that “abs are made in the kitchen”—30% gym and 70% diet! This means that your diet should be your priority because it will be your top weapon to aid fat loss.

2. If you are going to do cardio exercises to help you lose fat, make sure to pick a type (low, medium, or high intensity) and modality (bike, treadmill, elliptical, etc.) which you actually enjoy doing and would stick to. In this way, you’re sure that you’ll do the exercise as often as you should instead of just opting for something that’s “optimal” but not really seeing yourself doing it as often.

3. Though cardio exercise is not necessary for fat loss, it is still important for overall health. Therefore, regardless of your fitness goals, cardio exercise should still be part of your training program.

4. Make sure the cardio exercises you choose to do don’t use up all your energy to the point that you can’t do anything for the rest of the day because you already feel tired.

So in conclusion, while cardio exercise promotes overall health, especially for the heart, it’s still not the optimal solution for fat loss. Cardio exercise along with proper diet, self discipline, and weight training should all be part of your training program if you wish to achieve maximum results for fat loss.
