Seafood Night at Fusion in Ghaya Grand Hotel

While the dining scene in Dubai is at its height on weekends because of brunches here and there, weekdays don't come far behind. Most of the hotel restaurants offer theme nights on weekdays—which is sort of a mini version of a weekend brunch and is mostly focused on a specific "theme" or cuisine each night.

Last Saturday, Mark and I got to try another theme night buffet—Seafood Night at Fusion. Fusion is a multi-cuisine restaurant located at Ghaya Grand Hotel in IMPZ, Dubai. Every night, Fusion transforms into a seafood haven which is evident with the nets, fishing baskets, ship's wheel adorning the walls of the restaurant.

I find the ambience neat and romantic especially because of the dim lights, warm tones of the furnitures and fixtures, and candle-lit tables. Not the perfect lighting for taking food photos, though (and yes, I had to make adjustments on the lighting/brightness of all my photos below).

And because it's seafood night, the fresh seafood market and live cooking station is restaurant's main 'attraction'. Seafood is also incorporated in the salads, appetizers, and other dishes in the buffet spread.

Also on offer are dishes from international cuisines like Thai wok noodles, Japanese sushi, Chinese dim sum, Arabian bites, and Indian curries. I think I saw live a cooking station for Indian breads when I was going through some searches online, but there was none during our visit.

Mark is on a strict diet so he did away with his favorite sushi and went straight to the seafood market. I, on the other hand, tried some noodles, sushi, dim sum, seafood, and desserts! :p

Dim sum and sushi were decent though not something to rave about; the noodles had veggies and meat (beef and chicken) that were tough to chew and flavor of the dish was a bit salty for my liking not to mention it was also oily.

There's a selection of fresh fish, mussels, lobster, squid, and "shrimps" on the seafood station. Mark loved the red snapper (though there was only quite a few of this on the spread), but it would be nice if they'd include salmon and tuna in the selection.

Also, the "shrimp" label on the seafood display is somehow misleading as the ones on offer were more like crayfish (which kind of broke my shrimp lover heart). It was tough and tasted moldy. :( Mark also noticed the same. Good thing the lobsters, mussels, and squid were okay.

Artisan breads were also available, along with a couple of cheese, and some desserts.

The dessert spread is not as extensive; there were a couple of cakes and mousse, plus pistachio pudding (which was a tad too sweet for me) and some fruits. The Devil's Cake is my top pick. I saw some kids enjoy scooping some ice creams, too.

For AED 155 per person, inclusive of juices and soft beverages, with dishes from various cuisines and fresh seafood which you can eat up to your tummy's desire, and factoring out the misses that I mentioned, it's quite affordable compared to other restaurants offering a seafood night.

Probably worth a visit when you're near the IMPZ area, but for me it's honestly not something that I'd go back for. Apart from the few misses, it's also a bit of an effort to go there, especially if you don't have a car (we went there by gold metro [Burjuman-FGB] and taxi [FGB metro-hotel] which costed us over a hundred dirhams for a round trip ride).
