Located at the heart of the heritage hub that is Al Seef, is a place which coffee and tea lovers will surely enjoy—Kava & Chai. A specialty coffee shop serving up freshly brewed coffee and tea, they also offer some healthy blends and bites, and pastries and desserts.
Nothing more than its namesake, for me, what makes it stand out from mainstream coffee and tea shops is its ambience—quaint facade coupled with contemporary interiors—and that lovely waterfront view of the Dubai Creek.
We visited on a Saturday afternoon, just about sunset, and grabbed ourselves some outdoor seats. While the view was inviting and the weather was a little bearable, we just had to transfer to the couch inside after a couple of minutes when the humidity started to kick in.
We were the only diners during our visit, so the service went smoothly. Our orders were served just a couple of minutes after we placed them. I just hope the service still remains the same when diners start flocking come winter.
You may select from the specialty tea, coffee, healthy blends, and juices on the menu in the counter. There's also a couple of salads, sandwiches, and healthy bites; plus some desserts and pastries on display.
There were only two salads and sandwiches on display that time, so there's not really much choice for us. We had Chicken and Avocado Salad (mixed lettuce, grilled chicken, avocado, tomatoes, candied walnuts, and honey apple cider vinaigrette) and Baby Spinach with Dates Salad (baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, dates, lemon vinaigrette). Both were distinctly delicious and fresh, but I liked the Chicken and Avocado Salad more.

Aleppo Peppers Turkey - I found the turkey slices a little too few, but the peppers and that green filling (which tasted kinda nutty) compensated for it.
Buffalo Mozzarella Chicken Panini - The mozzarella and chicken went well altogether, but I didn't like the sun-dried tomatoes in it (it was just too sour for me).

Passionfruit Ginger D-Tox Blend - AED 21 Passionfruit and ginger blended with some greens. Not a fan of this as the ginger tasted too strong for me. |
A visit to Kava & Chai won't be complete without trying their coffee and tea, of course. Mark had the Qahwa Turkish Coffee while I opted for the Kava & Chai Latte—a combination of coffee and chai. We also had some Almond Croissant and Red Velvet Oreo Cake to go with our coffee and tea.
Mark enjoyed his coffee; it was brewed the traditional Turkish way using the sand machine. It was dark and strong, just how Mark likes his coffee.
I'm used to having coffee and chai separately and it's my first time to have them together in one cup. I enjoyed it! Though the coffee taste is there, I tasted more chai in it, and I am not complaining!

The croissant is huge it can be shared by two non-big eaters; the cake also looks sinfully delicious! We didn't get the chance to taste either of them, though, since we were already full. Mark brought it to work the following day and had his friend try them out. He said both were delicious, so I'll just take his word for it. ;)

If you're a coffee or tea lover, if you want some quiet time while reading a book, or if you're a romantic person like me who enjoys lovely waterfront views, you might want to check out Kava & Chai in Al Seef.
Winter is already coming and their food is also "Mark-approved", plus I have yet to try their pastries and cakes, and it's just a 10-minute walk from our place, so I'm sure Mark and I will keep coming back. :D
Mark, enjoying his coffee with the lovely view! |
