It gets really cold at night in Dubai during winter. It is also during this time when my hot soup cravings are at its peak!
It was a cold weekday night and I'm still at work when I suddenly craved something hot. I initially thought of having wonton noodles, but later on had a huge craving for ramen on my way home. I immediately bugged Mark about my cravings, so he went ahead to Burjuman Centre and found Umami.
He ordered a ramen for us each and I arrived just in time when they were served. The Seafood Ramen had shrimps, squid, and fish on a shio broth; while the Beef Ramen had beef and tofu slices on soya broth. Both bowls also include a variety of veggies, plus the usual noodles, egg, narutomaki, and nori strips.
My eyes were initially drawn to the Seafood Ramen but my nose was captivated by the smell of the Beef Ramen! And true enough, I preferred the beef ramen over the seafood.
The soya broth had a more distinct flavor, I can also taste some garlic flavors when I bite into the beef slices. It had the right amount of saltiness and I can also taste a hint of sweetness, while the shio broth seemed a bit bland and oilier.
Overall it was a decent ramen, the ingredients were generous and it's not as pricey as I thought. One downer though was the soup which tends to get cold easily. Could be because it's served on a plastic bowl or maybe because I'm just really a slow eater?
I also had a hard time eating the soup because the disposable ramen spoon had sharp edges, which kind of slices through my upper lip in every sip. :(
Any suggestions on where to have the best ramen in Dubai? Or do you have other cravings on cold winter nights? I'd love to know! Please write them in the comments section below. :D
