The Art of Brunch immediately captivated my heart (and tummy!) when I first got to try it almost a year back. So when our friends from Movenpick Hotel & Apartments Bur Dubai extended another invitation for us to sample their revamped Friday brunch offer, I immediately confirmed as I already knew that I'd be having one helluva gastronomic treat!
It was also very timely that my college friend, Kristel, is in town for a vacation so I didn't have second thoughts when I tagged her along. I was sure that The Art of Brunch would not let me down.
The Art of Brunch, Revamped!
Serving up a traditional buffet with a British twist, all the offerings that we had before from the already extensive buffet with that unique artsy touch were still present–this time only a lot bolder, bigger, and better!Breads, Cheese, and Wine
Take your pick from the choicest slices of aged cheeses and top them over rustic-style breads from the breads and cheese sections which look almost too pretty to touch. Such a perfect match for copious glasses of wine!Salad Bar, Mezze, and Charcuterie
The salad bar has options ranging from continental and Arabic to Asian and Spanish favorites!Appetizers, Mains, and More!
A medley of Asian, Western, and Middle Eastern appetizers and mains are available to satisfy your cravings. All Things Asian
There's a live cooking station for Asian street food favorites such as Chinese dimsum, Korean BBQ, and Thai noodles, which made feel close to home. I'd been craving for dimsum so badly so I made sure to have this on my plate. The chicken and shrimp dumplings were as good as before, especially with the sweet and spicy dip.If you're a fan of Indian curries and tikka, they're also being served at the brunch.
Carnivores, Rejoice!
Up for some meatier options? The carvery station got you covered! And yes, there's pork! :DSeafood Galore
If I remember it right, seafood was only served à la carte before, but they have now added an oyster bar plus some poached prawns and lobsters as part of the buffet. Which just means that you can indulge in succulent prawns and lobsters up to your heart's and tummy's desire.Best Buffet Sushi in Town!
And of course, there's Japanese sushi which now has a lot more choices!I noticed how the quality of sushi gets compromised when they're served up buffet-style, but that is definitely not the case with Movenpick's sushi.
The sushi lover in Mark felt giddy seeing this section of the buffet and immediately helped himself with it. It's our top pick for the best tasting buffet sushi after all!
The "Cooked-to-Order"s
Aside from the live cooking station for Asian street food, also included in the brunch are cooked-to-order à la carte dishes. Items change from time to time but I love I how they always include the Seafood Platter in the list. We enjoyed it before so we didn't have hesitations in ordering the Seafood Platter the second time around. The seafood platter has fried calamari, grilled shrimps, and grilled fish. The calamari was tender and not oily, shrimps were cooked perfectly, and the fish didn't have that fishy taste at all. Each of the elements were good on their own, but the flavors were even enhanced by the chopped parsley, lemon, and tartar sauce. I personally love the prawns and calamari! :D
Kristel ordered Fish 'n Chips which was mediocre.
Desserts
Aside from the arts, books, and crafts adorning each buffet section, the desserts are another highlight of the revamped brunch. While the desserts were in a little nook before with just a number of selections, they are now situated right at the center of the hotel with natural light highlighting the massive spread. It's more than just a feast for those with sweet tooth. It. Is. Heaven!Everything was an eye candy and was just too cute to eat, but what I loved the most was the mango sticky rice and fresh fruits.
Kids Paradise
Even the section for kids, which was previously called the Kids Club, was made even grander. With a mini buffet area designed for children, plus an activity area with inflatables, video games, and movie screen, it definitely is a Kids Paradise! The kids just can't hold their horses with the ice creams, cotton candy, and this tall box of gummy candies! Well I can't blame them, even my big boy was so eager to scoop out those gummies!
Even Kristel and I sneaked into the kids' dessert section and helped ourselves with ice cream, crepes, and waffles! Oh the simple joys of being kids (at heart)!
Glad that Kristel loved the dining experience as much as we did. If you have visitors coming over, make sure to bring them to The Art of Brunch. It surely won't let you down.
