Olive Oil: All-Day Dining Restaurant in Jumeira Rotana

Mark and I were invited to grace the launch of Olive Oil, Jumeira Rotana’s new all day dining restaurant, a couple of weeks back. While the hotel was unfamiliar to us and was a bit of a struggle to get to (it's tucked in 2nd December Street in Satwa, with all the traffic especially since it's rush hour), the restaurant was easy to find as it's located on the ground floor of the hotel.

We were welcomed with drinks when we arrived and were ushered to a table for two, where I got an ample view of the restaurant. Olive Oil exudes that modern and casual yet serene atmosphere with its earthy and minimalist yet chic interiors.

After a few sips of my Cosmo, Mark and I checked the buffet spread out. The spread is situated at the far end of the room, with a separate long table of desserts to start with. We arrived an hour after the restaurant opened, so I was already expecting an altered spread.

The selection was not extensive but the variety of dishes was interesting. There were salads, sushi, appetizers, breads, and mains ranging from seafood and steaks to Indian and Arabic dishes and mixed grill.

Sushi
The huge sushi pieces caught my attention, but there was nothing special when it comes to the taste. Even Mark, who is a sucker for sushi, was quite disappointed.

As always, the mixed grill and tabbouleh were a hit for me! :D

We tried the seafood platter as suggested by one of the staff and were served with shrimps, crab, and lobster right off the grill. The natural sweetness of the shrimps, lobster, and crab meat went well with the char grilled flavor, however, I think a little saltiness would do the trick.

It would have been better with a lemon butter sauce, which I think the staff forgot to serve us. :( I only knew of it when a choice of sauces were asked from the guests in an adjacent table, just right when we already finished off the almost bland seafood. :p

Grilled Seafood

I had been keeping myself from sweets and had been craving for chocolates for the longest time now, that's why my dessert plate looked like this. Glad that Mark allowed me. :D I was so happy that the desserts, at least the ones on my plate, didn't disappoint!

All the chocolate based desserts have the same rich dark chocolaty taste! Yum!
Though there were a few misses, I can still say that we had a hearty dinner at Olive Oil. Can't wait to check out and try their famous steak and carvery-seafood-Latino-international-Indian-and-Far-Eastern nights. Their delightful Friday brunch also sounds fun!
