Going Greek with Go Gyroz

Tucked in the nook in Jumeirah Lake Towers, Cluster D, is one unassuming restaurant that serves authentic Greek food. If you fancy Mediterranean sandwiches, Go Gyroz surely has something that will satisfy your cravings.

Very evident in its interiors is the teal-blue-white combination which resembles that of the Greek flag (well, minus the teal, of course :p). Cozy, well-lit, and with cushioned wooden chairs, sofas, and marble-like tables, the whole setup is reminiscent of a school cafeteria.

Go Gyroz serve authentic Greek sandwiches with a twist. They serve 4 authentic Greek sandwiches that are each identified with a certain country based of the type of bread and select ingredients used.

Mark chose the Spartan Spread while I had the Mayan Myth. We both opted for veggies, and chicken for the gyro meat. You can also choose to have it with no veggies and more meat and  more sauce, all without extra charges! Isn't that sweet?

Mark was all praises with his Spartan Spread. The traditional Greek gyro rolled in a thick pita bread with garlic-y tzatziki, crispy lettuce, and red onion definitely won Mark over.

Wrapped in tortilla bread, the gyro meat slices accompanied with ground guacamole, chipotle salsa, and wild jalapeño spread, the Mayan Myth is the Mexican gyro. It was packed with flavors and is good, I must say, but I would have enjoyed this one more if the heat was bearable. If you love hot and spicy food, this one is perfect for you.

Aside from the authentic Greek sandwiches, I think what makes Go Gyroz stand out from the rest of the drones and gyros shops is that they make almost every ingredient in their own kitchen, from the bread, down to the dips and chips.

The thick-cut, golden yellow chips were decent and what looked just ordinary-tasting were surprisingly yummy. It wasn't oily at all making it crispy on the outside, mushy potatoey on the inside.

We also sampled the Gyro Plate which is a combination of seared meat or chicken gyro slices with hummus, warm pita bread, lettuce, onions, tzatziki, and crunchy fries. With meat, bread, and veggies, this one is already a complete meal and is perfect for sharing.

You can have it with beef or chicken, but we opted to have both. :D Among the two meats, the chicken gyro meat is what Mark and I both loved. It was succulent and juicy and had that added flavor which, by what the staff said, is from lamb fat.

The beef didn't quite appeal to us and it didn't come close to comparison with the chicken. It wasn't the beef meat that most gyros and drones usually have. Go Gyroz' version was more like ground meat (a combination of beef and lamb as what we were told) that was compacted into a meat loaf which gets cooked in a vertical rotisserie grill. The meat was tender but was on the dry side.

We were already full that, although the desserts were inviting, we just had to beg off. I've heard and read raves about the Cookies and Cream Cheesecake, so I'll remember to have that next time. :p

Although the price may be a bit of a stretch especially for just a sandwich, I think it was reasonable as the gyros were huge and had generous fillings. I only ate half of my sandwich but I was already full. The ingredients were also fresh.

Overall dining experience was fun and light because of the commendable staff. Roselle was well-versed with their offerings. I love how enthusiastic she was in going us through the menu she was also attentive to our needs.
