A Night with an American Culinary Legend

One fine night, Cat and I got to explore the best of American cuisine at the sundeck of Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Special thanks to Zomato and JBH, we got to indulge on food, drinks, and desserts especially made by no less than the American culinary legend and celebrity chef, Chef Sammy Demarco.

The favorable Dubai weather and the lovely sea view with the majestic Burj Al Arab completed the lovely food exhibition at the sundeck. Every station showcasing Chef Sammy D's specialties was a sight to behold, with the desserts station and a cotton candy machine as the centerpiece of the whole setup.

The award winning chef, also known as Chef Sammy D, was mingling with the guests and was enthusiastic in sharing what he prepared for us that night. I was privileged to get a chit chat with him and being the big star that he is, I was surprised how down-to-earth he was. He even posed for the camera with me. Yay! :D

With Chef Sammy D

"The gastronomic specialist has been on the restaurant scene for over 30 years and is known in the USA for his experimentation with traditional American cuisine. He became known as the ‘Chef to the Chefs’ in the late 90s and he is the presenter co-star of Travel Network’s ‘Chow masters’ program."

Among the offerings that night, my top picks were:

1) Honey Walnut Shrimps with Spring Onions and Sour Cream - The supple shrimp was enveloped in a crisp honey walnut crust. There was a perfect blend of sweet and sour flavor brought about by the crust and the sour cream. I loved the shrimps so much that had to help myself with a second serving! :p

2) Crisp Asian Oyster served in Shell with Wakame Salad, Wasabi Mayonnaise and Pickled Ginger - both an eye candy and a palate-pleaser, Chef Sammy D's take on oysters was definitely a winner!

3) Buffalo Wings - crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside, I loved how the spiciness was tolerable and was tamed down by the sour cream dip.

4) Gyro Braised Lamb Taco with Fetta Cheese, Chopped Salad and Tzatziki - Chef Sammy D totally captured that Mediterranean taste with this lamb taco. Yummy!

5) Mini Lobster Rolls - the bread itself was a bit sweet for my liking, but the lobster salad filling was the bomb!

The desserts were really inviting but I was caught up with the main offerings that I forgot to make room for desserts. So I just contained myself with just drooling over these goodies! :D

I must say that Jumeirah Beach Hotel was right in showcasing Chef Sammy D's specialties. He definitely brought a retro edge to the hotel's culinary offerings!
