Isn't it nice when you have full control over what goes into your food? That's definitely what 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria is all about!
800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria celebrated the grand opening of its second branch in Dubai a couple of weeks back and I was privileged to grace the event. Located in the new extension of Mall of the Emirates, it is very accessible to diners as it is right in the heart of the city.
800 Degrees' concept brings to the table an ingenious menu of bespoke pizzas. Together with my friends, we were able to savor and indulge in authentic Italian pizzas that are made fresh right in front of us.
Diners can choose everything, from the crust, to every ingredients, sauces, and toppings, all fully customizable according to their heart's and palates' desires. Cherry actually coined it as the pizza version of Subway.
Also baked in an almond wood oven in just 90 seconds, it is a total delight for me to watch how perfectly the pizza is created the traditional Italian way.
Just when I thought that I already had my fill of amusement from the preparation of my food, it was hyped up the moment I took a bite of my creation.
I'm a sucker for thin crust pizzas, so it wasn't hard to fall in love with 800 Degrees' pizzas. I chose Original Neapolitan for my crust and Bianca for my base. I then opted for chicken, cherry tomatoes, and more mozzarella as add ons.
The crust was fluffy and had a thin and chewy interior. I liked how it tasted neutral, just with the right amount of saltiness and with a hint of nutty flavor (which I'm attributing to the almond wood), which made the flavors from the toppings stand out. The freshness of the ingredients also added up to the whole healthy experience.
Since you are in control, you can of course go all-out with the toppings. Cherry had anchovies and shrimps on her pizza, Kat had chilies, shrimps, and pepperoni while Lester went all-meat.
It's also nice that the menu does not conform to pizzas alone. 800 Degrees also serves authentic Italian delights such as Gelato, Burratas, Small Bites such as Ricotta Cheese Bread, and Salads, and a variety of drinks and coffee.
I got an order of the Chopped salad. One serving is already good for sharing. It has a generous serving of assorted vegetables, meats, and lots of cheese! Of course there's also an option for you to make your own salad.
I also got a scoop of the Chocolate Gelato. The velvety consistency of the decadent chocolate tickle my palates in every spoonful. Mark would definitely love this! The Pistachio Gelato didn't pale into comparison as it also got raves from Lester and Kat.
Overall dining experience was fun. Service a was bit slow during the opening, but I guess it's mainly because of the volume of diners all wanting to get a hold of the pizzas.
I, for one, liked the actual experience wherein I was completely in control of the creation of my meal. I thought it worked best for me, especially because I must be mindful of what I eat (blame it to my gastritis and acid reflux), since I get to choose what goes into my pizza. At least I can claim that this is a healthier version of pizza, well depending of course on the toppings that I choose. For the weight-watchers, there's also a gluten-free option for the crust. How about that? :p
