Al Mansour Dhow: The New Old Lady

They say that first love never dies. They also say that love is lovelier the second time around. Wait, what? Where did that come from? Oh sorry! Kindly pardon the hopeless romantic in me. :p

It's just that I can't help but feel all giddy when I got another invite for a dinner cruise on board Radisson Blu, Dubai Deira Creek's Old Lady, the Al Mansour Dhow. I had fun during our first time, so Mark and I felt privileged trying it out the second time and gracing the launch of the newly-renovated Al Mansour Dhow a couple of weekends back.

Just like before, we immediately experience the Arabic hospitality and warmth as we mounted the vessel. We were served with welcome drinks and canapés as we were ushered to our seats.

Very noticeable is the more elegant and chic arrangement at the upper deck. I loved how the tables which used to be cramped at the center of the deck were ditched and replaced with a space with some pillows where guests can have a sip of the Arabic coffee or have their henna tattoos done.

I specifically loved how the upholstery and table linens, which used to be mostly red, where replaced with white ones with just a hit of red and gold. It definitely made the deck look a lot livelier than before. The fresh yellow roses and stained glass candle holders also added glitz to the whole setup.

I love the new setup as it is more conducive to a romantic night. :D Too bad it was very humid that night, that we were left with no choice but to occupy the air-conditioned lower deck.

The lower deck has the same setup as before but now with a brighter  mood with all the white, red, and gold touches. There's still the ever jolly oud player who was very game with posing for the camera.

Aside from the ambience and overall setup, the already lavish buffet spread before was also revamped to add more exciting dishes from salads, mezze, and breads, to mains, desserts, and drinks.

There still were the good ol' mixed grills (shish tawok and kofta kebab), butter chicken curry, and roti which I made sure not to miss. There's also the freekeh risotto topped with date-stuffed chicken roulade. The risotto was okay but what stood out was the chicken roulade. I didn't know that it was stuffed with dates until just now when I was going over the copy of the menu. Now that explained the sweet kick from the savory roulade. :D

I was very much anticipating this night as I was craving for the burger steak which Mark and I enjoyed during our first dinner cruise. I was starting to feel bad when I can't seem to find it in the spread, until I saw these sliders.

I wasn't that keen in reading the labels of the dishes, so I was surprised when one of the staff checked on us and asked us how the camel sliders were.  It was my first time to try camel meat out and I never thought that it can be so good! I really didn't notice that it's not beef or lamb. The meat was juicy and very flavorful. There was no aftertaste and I love how naturally sweet the meat was. The date and lime jam that came with it also added that tangy kick.

The camel sliders reaped a lot of raves from the diners. It was definitely a hit!

There were also new choices for the desserts like umali, cardamom cheese cake, and pumpkin mille fuille, but what Mark and I munched a lot are on our favorite macarons and some fresh fruits. Yummy!

I also finally got to meet some of the the UAE-based Filipino bloggers that I follow. I just hate how the timid girl in me suddenly butted in, so I wasn't really able to join their group for some converstaoins. But I was really overwhelmed to have finally put faces behind their names. Was glad to at least have small talks with the very sweet Lady Anne of Lady and her Sweet Escapes and Carla of My Yellow Bells. Was also able to at least be part of the group picture. :p

While there were a lot of new things, some good old things were retained including the Old Lady's traditional look and charm, the good food, and the commendable five-star service and hospitality from all the staff. Everything was just like my first dhow dinner cruise experience, but a lot more exciting, fun, romantic, and gastronomic.

Thank you for having us! :D
