Although it was cut short, Mark and I enjoyed our #AGCDubFest experience.
So when I got an invite for another event in Al Ghurair Centre, I was more than excited to experience another showcase of talents.
STREETCON (Street Art Connection) is an Urban Art Festival organized by Al Ghurair Centre which kicked off last 23rd of April and spans to the 2nd of May 2015. Just like the Dub Fest, #AGCStreetCon is one of Al Ghurair Centre's signature events that happens annually and celebrates art, music and culture.
The bloggers meet was once again held at Paul, Al Ghurair Centre, where we were served with a delectable array of canapés, juices, and coffee. And just like before, it again was a great way to jump-start a fun day.
Al Ghurair Centre aims to energize public spaces in order to make art accessible to the community, and this is what STREETCON is all about. The artists, both local and international, got to showcase their talents on the grounds, walls, and streets of Al Ghurair Centre.
We were there at the kick-off so we got to witness how the artists started each of their masterpieces. I got impressed the most with The Side Wall, 3D Floor Art, and Miracoco. The Side Wall and the 3D Floor Art actually reminded me of my cousin, Jestine, who also does great artworks. You can check his masterpieces here and here.
The Side Wall, Kobra
A vertically installed mural painted live on top of Gerard Cafe, The Side Wall has got to be the biggest mural piece done in Deira district. It was still being worked on but I already got amazed as to how the details were made. A wonderful work of art indeed!
3D Floor Art, Kobra
This is also known as 3D Sidewalk Art. It was still being started but I can already picture Burj Al Arab, The Palm, and a yacht inside a bottle. I still haven't seen the finished product, but I saw some photos online and it's interactive design allowed people to take their photos within the image so that they appear as though they are part of the scene.
Miracoco, Architects of Air
The Miracoco luminarium offers a stunning maze of winding paths and soaring domes where Islamic architecture, Archimedean solids, and Gothic cathedrals meld into an inspiring monument to the beauty of light and colors.
The luminarium has no light source inside and just uses the outside natural light to illuminate the seams which creates a dazzling play of colors and light.
It's an inflatable structure so Mark wasn't able to come with me there as he can't bring his crutch inside. It was just when I checked the site when we got home that I confirmed that wheelchairs are allowed inside. It would have been a lot more fun if Mark was able to experience it there too.
Other attractions in the StreetCon include:
Pure Crank: Bike Art
Mark wasn't really able to come with me in the entire street tour because of his injury and most of the attractions were still being worked on, but I surely had fun. All attractions are now complete so I'm sure you will enjoy it there too.
We also got to have some free snacks at Elevation Burger and some StreetCon freebies! :D
Thank you so much, #AGCStreetCon, for the freebies! :D
So if you've got a time to spare, head over to Al Ghurair Centre’s StreetCon with your family and friends to witness yet another showcase of talents!
