Saturday “Pik-Nik” at The Westin Dubai

Just like in every fast-growing nations, life in Dubai also seems to be fast-paced. Living here for more than half a year now, I observed that most of the people, locals and expats alike, tend to be too preoccupied with work that they almost forget to unwind, spend quality time with their families, and "live life".

And I think it's a great idea for The Westin Dubai to try to get people back to "living life" with its Saturday "Pik-Nik".

The Westin Dubai, Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina, announced its new Saturday "Pik-Nik", which launched last Saturday, March 7, 2015. Mark and I were lucky to be part of the launch along with other families. Seeing the place immediately made me feel as if we were transported to a different site, far from the hustle and bustle of the city life.

Pik-Nik, which takes place between 11:30am and 4:00pm on Saturdays, was designed to give families quality time together within the beautiful surroundings of the Westin resort.

You will be given a gold coin, at the picnic area entrance, which you will use for claiming the Pik-Nik basket.

You are then free to choose your "picnic spot". Mark and I agreed that the setup was so relaxing and very much exudes a country-style picnic vibe with the traditional picnic basket, white picket fence, picnic benches, umbrellas, and mats all over the place.

I can't even count how many times I've told him how feel-good the entire setup was especially with all the happy families around.

We were provided with a Pik-Nik basket which I immediately unloaded. I got delighted when I when I saw our picnic table filled with a delicious assortment of breads, cheeses and charcuterie; mini salads; dips; condiments; pickles and pastries.

The breads, cheeses and charcuterie were a hit! The fruit salad and pastry also satisfied my sweet tooth. And oh, there's also a bag of jelly beans which Mark couldn't stop munching on.

Families can also indulge in these mouth-watering hearty burgers and hotdogs at the grilling section. Guests can satisfy their cravings up to their hearts' and tummies' desire.

Those hearty burger patties were what I enjoyed the most. It was grilled to perfection and was oozing with a flavorful juice in every bite. Oh I'm drooling now! :-p~

Drinks are also available, for an additional charge per drink, at the drinks station, which were offered to us for free at the launch.

And who wouldn't want desserts? Ice creams are also available up to your heart's and tummy's desire. :D

And while you're at it, be totally relaxed as you enjoy your feast and get serenaded by a live acoustic duo. Their music surely added up to the already feel-good vibe.

The first of its kind in Dubai, Pik-Nik also offers guests an ever-changing schedule of interactive entertainment each week. Here's the line up of entertainment that was prepared for guests last Saturday.

There were activities from face painting to kid’s club activities, to a fun and entertaining performance of the jugglers, which kids and adults alike will surely enjoy.

The jugglers were a hit for the kids as they cheer and laugh their heads off with the funny acts of the performers. And I must admit that I enjoyed their performance as much as the kids did!

Tolga Lacin, General Manager, The Westin Dubai, Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina said: “In Dubai we often get carried away with the fast-paced lifestyle that we have all so naturally become accustomed to. So we want to offer a weekend haven in our beautiful surroundings here at the Westin, where families can get out in the sun and enjoy some quality time together, relax, have fun and eat great food!”.

And I'm glad they did! Living away from my family of course makes me miss them a lot as we're also fond of having picnics back home. And being surrounded with families as they enjoy the feast, hearing laughter as they share memories, seeing kids as they play around and have fun, while enjoying the cool breeze and homey vibe on a fine sunny day, Pik-Nik somehow made me feel close to home. Thank you very much, The Westin Dubai, for having us! ♥
