It's my parents' 31st Wedding Anniversary yesterday and we celebrated it by having a simple dinner at home. I was supposed to make a cake, but because we still have some leftover cake from Father's Day, I just decided to make some brownies for my mom and dad.
I made chocolate fudge brownies with walnuts and cashew nuts and then decided to make it a little more special by adding some dark chocolate and dulce de leche drizzle. :D
Ever since I started making cakes, I see to it that I make a special cake for my loved ones on their special days. :) Here are a few of the cakes that I made for my family since last year, all made out of pure love! :D
Flowers and Butterflies-themed Giant Cupcake and Cupcakes - made these for my late grandmother during a family lunch and mass for her 40 days after death.

Just For Girls Cupcakes - made these for my cousin Enya's birthday on June last year. I made all of her favorite things as toppers and chose blue as the color of the frosting since it's her favorite color. :D

Running Shoes-themed Cake - the first ever custom-designed/sculpted cake that I made. Made this for my mom on her 50th birthday on August last year. :) It was actually my first time to try covering a big cake with fondant and then sculpting it into a life-sized shoe. It's not as perfect as I wanted it to be, but at least I made it to look a bit like the real thing. :p

Teacher-themed Cake - made this for my cousin Kim's birthday last December. She's an educator so I decided to make a cake that's teacher-themed. She specialized in teaching Math to students so I decided to put a blackboard with pencil, Math book, and test papers as cake toppers. I also intentionally made the inscription in the blackboard to appear as it is, with some letters written the wrong way, because she also teaches dyslexic students. I made the base cover of the cake with green fondant as green is Kim's favorite color. :)

Christmas Present Cake - made this as gift for Mark's mom last Christmas. I was having a hard time in thinking what Christmas present to give to Mark's mom, so I decided to literally make a present out of cake. :p

Hello Kitty Cake - since I make cakes for my loved ones on their special days, of course I didn't let my birthday pass without making a cake for myself. Made this cake as a gift for myself on my birthday earlier this year. Read full story here. :D

Basketball-themed Cake - my older brother celebrated his birthday a week after my birthday so I also made a cake for him. It's my first time using dark chocolate as cover for cake and it turned out well! Yay! Read full story here. :)

Guitar Cake - making this almost-life-sized guitar cake for my sister Gia's 27th birthday last March has got to be the most daring and aggressive move that I made in terms of making custom cakes. It is also one of the most tedious cakes that I've made. I was actually a little hesitant as I'm building this cake (I also had a hard time with the guitar strings!) but I must admit that I felt proud upon seeing the finished product.

I also made some cake pops out of the trimmings that I got from the guitar cake. :D
Mother's Day Cakes - made these cakes for my mom and for Mark's mom last May on Mother's Day. Both had the same base cakes and designs. I just had to omit the choco-covered cherries and wafer sticks from Mark's mom's cake since I'd have to have the cake delivered a couple of days earlier and I just don't want wafers and the cherries to get spoiled. :)

Chocolate Overload Cake - made this on my baby brother's birthday last May. Haven't thought of a design as I did everything in a rush, so I just decided to make a chocolate cake and top it with his favorite chocolates. :D

Basketball-themed Cake - we had our official celebration of Jaoey's birthday on the weekend after his real birthday. I was initially planning to make a Minecraft-themed cake since I know it's Jaoey's favorite video game, but chose to make a basketball cake instead because it's what Jaoey wanted when I asked him for a design suggestion.

I've been doing this labor of love for a year now and I will never stop doing it as long as I can. I don't think I will ever get tired of doing this. All those late night baking, sleepless nights, and tired and burnt hands are just nothing compared to all the smiles and compliments that I get from my creations. Knowing that I'm able to bring love and happiness, not only on their faces but their tummies as well, is just priceless!

ReplyDeleteYou're very good at what you do, Kriska! I'm sure na-apreciate nilang lahat ng family mo yang mga creations mo for them. I bake, too, but I haven't tried doing fondant, tinitingnan ko pa lang, parang ang hirap na at ang gastos sa sugar? Haha. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks sis! I've also seen your baked goodies and they all look yummy! Yeah you should try doing fondant, yun nga lang magastos nga sa sugar haha! :p
