I've already been awed at my cousin's artworks even before, so I immediately blocked my calendar when I got an invite for the opening reception of Identity last January 14.
Identity is an art exhibit housed in the Adamson University Art Gallery which features the works of the Oblika Art Group. I believe it's the 2nd exhibit of Oblika.
Fidel Sarmiento (Art Association of the Philippines, member) and Eduardo Atuel and Robert Salazar (Oblika Art Group, members, and are also ex-convicts who became artists)
The group consists of artists/painters from Eulogio "Amang" Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST) College of Fine Arts and Architecture, one of them is my cousin, Jestine Torres.
Each of the artists had at least three artworks in the exhibit. I won't be going through the details or make a critic on each painting, but the way I see it, each of them also has their own subject and style which somehow depicts what identity they want to instill to their audience.
Hmmm..am I even making sense? Haha!
Okay, okay, I'm not an expert when it comes to paintings and art in general, so let me just share with you some of the paintings which I found amazing. :)
Forgot to get the details but this painting is made using melted candles. Can't help but touch it just to check haha! Those details are a killer! Perfectly awesome!
The details and lighting effect on these landscape paintings are beautiful too!
One of the artists, Mark Lester Espina, also got my attention. He seems to be fascinated about feet. Maybe he has a foot fetish? Haha! Kidding aside, don't you think his works are amazing? They all look so real!
Last but not the least, the stars of the exhibit for me, of course, are my cousin's artworks. I'm not saying this just because he's my cousin, but because I've seen how he has become a good artist. From being a newbie painter, he has eventually grown into an even more talented artist.

His works now are a lot more realistic than before, with very good details and with so much depth. Again, I'm saying this as someone who somehow has an eye for beautiful things, and not as an expert in art haha! :p
I'm not sure if I got it right, but I think the identity that he's trying to depict on his works is how we, people, are very much similar to animals when it comes to our emotions.
Or maybe not? Haha! Well all I know is that his works are so awesome! And yes, I'm a proud cousin! Another job well done, Jestine!
You may drop by at the at the Adamson University Art Gallery to get to see more of the artworks by the Oblika Art Group. The Identity exhibit is open until the end of January. :)
