Today's the birthday of my older brother, Chino, so I decided to make a birthday cake for him. I was already thinking of designs for my brother's birthday cake as early as after I made my own birthday cake. Special thanks to my baby brother, Jaoey, for suggesting the designs. He knew how Chino loves cars and basketball so these were the designs that he had in mind.
I was choosing between a sports car cake or a basketball cake, and, because I thought it's kinda hard to sculpt a car out of a cake, I just chose the latter. :p
I made a chocolate cake base and half (well the top part actually) of a basketball. For the base cake, I decided to cover it with dark chocolate and used royal icing for the greetings.
This is the first time that I did a chocolate-covered cake and I guess I can do this more often. :D
For the basketball, I covered it with fondant plus royal icing for the details. I also used an improvised tool for the texture of the ball. :p
That cute little basketball player is also made out of fondant with royal icing for the details. I just love working with the fondant-royal icing combo!
I intentionally made the chocolate cover to have a little rough finish so that it would look like mud. I wanted the cake to appear like there's a giant basketball that got stuck on the muddy ground, which the little basketball player found, thus the look on his face hahaha! :p
Also added some balls to hold the candle and the number 30. :)
And I guess my brother loved it! Though he seemed a little scared of the cake in the picture haha! Or maybe he wants to eat the cake already? Haha! But I swear he was very enthusiastic when I asked to take a photo of him with his cake. :p
This cake is actually a birthday gift from me and my dad. Thank you again for ordering, daddy dear! Can't wait to taste it tonight. We'll also be having a dinner feast to celebrate my brother's birthday. :)
Alright, I guess that's it for now. I still need to cook spaghetti for later. :D
