Texas Joe's House of Ribs

We headed back to Segara after our snacks at Meat Plus Cafe. After our night dip at Segara's pool, Mark and I got hungry so we went out to grab some food for dinner. :p

We drove around Subic Bay Freeport Zone to search for a place to dine. We ended up driving along the Water Front Road and finally decided to dine at Texas Joe's House of Ribs.

After parking our car at their spacious parking area, Mark and I decided to do away with the al fresco dining at Texas Joe's since there were only a few tables available. We were ushered by their waiting staff inside and accompanied us to a table at the far end of the restaurant.

The restaurant is an authentic American smokehouse which takes pride of its tender briskets, pit-smoked pulled pork, and ribs. The interiors were very country-style, more of a Texas saloon. It also has a bar, a pool table, and flat screen TVs; ideal for a night of drinking and unwinding.

If I remember it right, except for the guard, I noticed that the staff were mostly women. They were wearing cowboy-style outfits complete with the cowboy hat, vest, and boots. They were also friendly and accommodating. We were handed with the menu a littler after we were seated.

We had a hard time in choosing what to order since everything in the menu seemed good. We finally agreed on getting some ribs, one of their best-sellers, as suggested by the waiting staff. Mark got their Half Slab Baby Back Ribs while I opted for their Shrimp and Rib Combo.

It's as if we still can't got enough of the cheesecake at Meat Plus that we also got a slice of Texas Joe's blueberry cheesecake. We had it served first so that we can already fill our tummies while waiting for our main course.

Blueberry Cheesecake - Php 229.00

We were kind of disappointed with the cheesecake as its serving was a bit small compared to what we had at Meat Plus. It tasted okay, though Mark and I agreed that we liked Meat Plus' cheesecake more.

Mineral Water - Php 78.00

Our orders were served soon after our last morsel of cheesecake. Mark's order came in two huge chunks of ribs, with buttered veggies, dirty rice, and black beans. My order also came with a huge slab of rib, grilled shrimp skewers, buttered veggies, and mashed potato.

The dirty rice was good, just like what I had at Claw Daddy's. The beans were equally delicious. They both had that pungent aroma, but the flavors weren't that strong which gladly pleased my palates. The pungent aroma of the beans and the barbecue smell of the ribs was a good combination and was indeed very appetizing. Though still not a fan, I'm already trying to learn to get used to pungent and spicy flavors. :p

Half Slab Baby Back Ribs - Php 499.00

The veggies weren't like the ordinary buttered veggies that I used to have, but they were so good! I loved it's garlic-y taste! The sweetness of the veggies complemented the saltiness of the butter. I also liked that the veggies were cooked just right, still maintaining that crisp in every bite. It also balanced out the mostly brownish/reddish color of the dishes and gave a contrast in color which made the dish look more lively. And oh, did I say that I loved the distinct taste of the toasted garlic? :p

Another one which added contrast in color was the mashed potato. It was okay, though I would have wanted a little texture in it. I liked that the gravy was served separately though. :) The shrimps were cooked and seasoned well. It had that distinct flavor of onions and bell peppers. It was also even made more delectable with a sprinkle of lime juice.

Shrimp and Rib Combo - Php 569.00

The stars of our plates, the ribs, were meaty and maintained the tenderness as well. The sweet and sour barbecue sauce was well balanced. The spiciness was also tolerable for my palates. Texas Joe's also have their original barbecue sauces, which Mark and I didn't bother to put since the ribs were already good as is and didn't really need additional flavor. While I can't say that their ribs were the best I've eaten, Texas Joe's do offer a generous serving of delectable ribs.

Overall, our dining experience at Texas Joe's was great. Mark and I both enjoyed our meals and we both agreed that they were reasonably priced as the servings were really huge. We left the restaurant with full and happy tummies! We will definitely come back and try their other specialties on our next visit to Subic. :)
